First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tested a two-step treatment for multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer. 148 patients received a first round of high-dose chemotherapy (melphalan) followed by a stem cell transplant, then a second round with melphalan plus another drug (bortezomib) and another transplant. The goal was to see if this approach could keep the cancer from coming back longer. Participants were between 18 and 75 years old and had to have enough stem cells stored for both transplants.
