Sugar substitutes under scrutiny: could they harm blood sugar control?
NCT ID NCT07124585
First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 06, 2026 · Updated 22 times
Summary
This study looks at how two common artificial sweeteners (sucralose and saccharin) affect blood sugar control and gut bacteria in people with type 2 diabetes. 33 adults will take each sweetener and a placebo for a week, with breaks in between. The goal is to see if these sweeteners, often used as sugar substitutes, might actually impact blood sugar regulation through changes in gut microbes.
