New drug aims to cut opioid use after common knee surgery

NCT ID NCT07355166

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 31, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a new painkiller called suzetrigine can help people use fewer opioids after ACL surgery while still controlling pain. About 140 participants will receive either suzetrigine or standard opioid-based pain care and report their pain, opioid use, and side effects for one week. The goal is to see if suzetrigine can provide effective pain relief with less reliance on opioids.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a way to manage post-surgery pain with fewer opioids, reducing addiction risk.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial focused on a specific surgery. Results may not apply to other procedures, and suzetrigine may not control pain as well as opioids.
