Major study aims to settle debate: monitor or treat precancerous esophagus?

Summary
This study looks at two common ways to manage Barrett's esophagus with low-grade dysplasia—a condition where the esophagus lining has abnormal cells that rarely turn into cancer. One approach is regular check-ups with biopsies (surveillance), and the other is a procedure to remove or burn the abnormal cells (endoscopic therapy). The goal is to find out which method is safer and more effective at preventing cancer. About 680 adults with this condition will take part across multiple U.S. hospitals.
