Can a germ-fighting stitch slash surgery infections?

NCT ID NCT05966961

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two types of stitches used to close wounds after abdominal surgery. One stitch has a special coating that may help prevent bacteria from growing, while the other is a standard stitch. About 3,000 adults having emergency or planned abdominal surgery will take part. The goal is to see if the coated stitch leads to fewer surgical site infections.
