Can peer support and case management improve life for older rural HIV patients?
NCT ID NCT06269081
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests two remote programs—peer support groups and strengths-based case management—for adults aged 50+ living with HIV in rural Southern U.S. counties. The goal is to see if these programs help with viral suppression, medication adherence, quality of life, and depression. About 352 participants will take part in weekly virtual sessions over 8 weeks.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
behavioral interventions (peer support groups and case management)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide practical, scalable tools to help older rural adults with HIV stay healthy and feel better.
What could go wrong
This is a behavioral study, not a drug trial, so benefits may be modest. Results depend on self-report and may not apply to all rural populations.
