Blood test may predict who needs a breathing tube for COVID-19
NCT ID NCT07466524
First seen Mar 13, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study looked at stored blood samples from about 300 adults hospitalized with COVID-19 to see if a protein called suPAR could predict who would develop severe breathing failure needing a ventilator. Researchers measured suPAR levels and checked medical records for outcomes. The goal was to see if the test works as well in U.S. patients as it did in European studies. No treatment was given—this was purely observational.
