First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study aims to create a treatment prognosis calculator for military personnel with suicidal thoughts. Researchers will test whether a specialized therapy called Brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (BCBT) works better than standard care for those predicted not to respond to usual treatment. About 1,200 active-duty service members will participate, completing surveys over 12 months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (BCBT) and treatment as usual
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors quickly match suicidal patients to the most effective therapy, potentially saving lives.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study focused on building a prediction tool, not testing a new treatment. The calculator may not work as hoped in real-world settings.
