Scientists shine light on dangerous drug side effect

NCT ID NCT00353158

Summary

This study aimed to understand why some people taking certain medications, like the antifungal drug voriconazole, develop a severe sunburn-like reaction to light. Researchers tested 62 participants, including healthy volunteers and patients on the medication, by exposing small patches of their skin to ultraviolet light. They took blood samples and skin biopsies to look for genetic clues about who is at risk and to see if sunscreen could offer protection.
