New study aims to ease breathing and swallowing problems in kids with brain conditions

Summary
This study looks at whether stomach and esophagus movement problems increase the risk of aspiration (food or liquid going into the lungs) in children with neurologic impairment. About 120 children aged 5-21 who rely on feeding tubes and are at high risk for aspiration pneumonia will take two different drugs—prucalopride and famotidine—over 10 weeks to compare their effects on symptoms. The goal is to find a better way to manage these symptoms and improve quality of life.
