Summary

This study tests a school program called Strong Teens for Healthy Schools (STHS) that teaches middle school students about civic engagement, healthy eating, and physical activity. The goal is to help students improve their own health and make positive changes in their school environment. About 500 students from 20 schools will take part, with half receiving the program and half continuing as usual.

What this could lead to

If successful, this program could help middle school students adopt healthier habits and lower their risk of heart disease and metabolic syndrome.

What could go wrong

This is a school-based behavioral study, not a medical treatment. Results depend on student participation and may not lead to lasting changes. The study is still recruiting and outcomes are measured over a short period.
