Can brain exercises help stroke survivors think clearer?
NCT ID NCT06325085
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This completed trial looked at whether combining two types of cognitive rehabilitation—restorative and compensatory—can improve executive functions in people who had a stroke and now have mild cognitive impairment. Thirty-six participants, aged 50 to 70, did exercises like naming words and counting backwards for 6 weeks. Researchers measured changes in thinking skills and quality of life.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
cognitive rehabilitation techniques (restorative and compensatory)
What this could lead to
If the combined approach works, it could point toward better rehab strategies for stroke survivors with mild cognitive problems.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 36 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The techniques are not a cure and benefits may be modest.
