Brain water measure may predict stroke recovery

NCT ID NCT07299981

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at whether a CT scan measurement called net water uptake (NWU) can predict how well people recover from a stroke after receiving clot-busting medication. Researchers will review medical records from 200 stroke patients across multiple hospitals. They want to see if NWU, which reflects brain tissue damage, is a better predictor of recovery than time alone.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help doctors decide who benefits most from clot-busting treatment for stroke, improving personalized care.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It only looks back at past data, so it cannot prove cause and effect. Results may not apply to all stroke patients.
