Stroke survivors: which statin combo cuts recurrence best?
NCT ID NCT06360120
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase 3 trial compares atorvastatin versus rosuvastatin, both given with clopidogrel, in 600 adults who had a first large-vessel ischemic stroke. The goal is to see which combination better prevents new strokes within 90 days. Participants receive either 40 mg atorvastatin or 40 mg rosuvastatin daily for 3 months, plus clopidogrel. The study tracks stroke recurrence and disability scores.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- atorvastatin, rosuvastatin, and clopidogrel
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could show that one statin is better than the other at preventing another stroke when combined with clopidogrel.
- What could go wrong
- This is a single-blinded trial, so expectations may be biased. The results may not apply to all stroke types, and side effects from the drugs are possible.
