Stroke survivors: which statin combo cuts recurrence best?

NCT ID NCT06360120

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This phase 3 trial compares atorvastatin versus rosuvastatin, both given with clopidogrel, in 600 adults who had a first large-vessel ischemic stroke. The goal is to see which combination better prevents new strokes within 90 days. Participants receive either 40 mg atorvastatin or 40 mg rosuvastatin daily for 3 months, plus clopidogrel. The study tracks stroke recurrence and disability scores.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
atorvastatin, rosuvastatin, and clopidogrel
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that one statin is better than the other at preventing another stroke when combined with clopidogrel.
What could go wrong
This is a single-blinded trial, so expectations may be biased. The results may not apply to all stroke types, and side effects from the drugs are possible.
