First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a stress management and mindfulness program can improve quality of life for adults with sickle cell disease. The program includes techniques from cognitive-behavioral therapy, relaxation exercises, and mindfulness meditation. Researchers will enroll 50 participants who live within 90 minutes of Philadelphia to see if the program helps with pain, mood, and daily function.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Stress management and mindfulness program (behavioral intervention)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a low-risk way to help people with sickle cell disease feel better day-to-day and manage stress.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 50 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The program is behavioral, not a medical treatment, so it won't cure the disease.
