Can a computer program beat anxiety? new study tests online stress relief
NCT ID NCT02621775
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested two ways to manage stress for people with adjustment disorder and anxiety: a 5-week online program (Seren@ctif) and a face-to-face program, compared to no treatment. 120 adults participated. The goal was to see if either program could reduce anxiety symptoms. The online program included videos, audio files, and a self-help guide, with minimal staff contact.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
stress management program (cognitive behavioral therapy)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a short online stress management program is as effective as in-person therapy for easing anxiety related to adjustment disorder.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study with only 120 participants. The results may not apply to everyone with anxiety, and the online program may not work as well for those without computer access or motivation.
