Dental stress study: saliva test reveals hidden anxiety in kids with weak enamel
NCT ID NCT07389148
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether children with a condition called molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH), which causes weak enamel on molars and front teeth, experience more stress during dental checkups. Researchers will measure stress by testing saliva for cortisol and checking heart rate and oxygen levels in 90 kids aged 8 to 12—half with MIH and half without. No treatments are given; the goal is simply to understand stress responses better so dentists can provide more comfortable care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help dentists better understand and manage anxiety in children with MIH, leading to more personalized and less stressful dental care.
What could go wrong
This is a small observational study with no treatment, so it won't directly improve health. Results may not apply to all children or settings.
