Stress ball may calm nerves before kidney surgery, trial hopes
NCT ID NCT07507656
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether using a stress ball for 15 minutes before retrograde intrarenal surgery (a type of kidney stone procedure) can lower patients' anxiety and fear, and improve heart rate and blood pressure. Sixty-six adults scheduled for elective surgery will be randomly assigned to either use the stress ball or receive standard care. The goal is to see if this simple, non-drug tool helps patients feel more relaxed before their operation.

stress ball
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to help patients feel calmer before surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 66 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The stress ball may not significantly reduce anxiety or fear.
