New gel could help cancer patients ditch steroid creams

NCT ID NCT04087629

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study is testing whether a special gel called StrataCTX can help people with skin reactions from cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) or cancer treatments use less steroid cream. Steroid creams can have side effects when used a lot, so finding an alternative is important. The study will enroll 70 adults and measure itching and quality of life over time.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

StrataCTX gel (a flexible wound dressing)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a way to manage skin reactions with less reliance on steroid creams, potentially reducing side effects from long-term steroid use.

What could go wrong

This is an early, small study (70 people) without a comparison group, so results may not be conclusive. The gel is a device, not a drug, so its effect may be modest.
