Can a natural compound help seniors survive sepsis?
NCT ID NCT05758246
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether the drug fisetin can reduce organ failure in adults aged 65 and older who have sepsis (a severe response to infection). Researchers will give participants either one or two doses of fisetin or a placebo, and measure changes in heart, lung, and kidney function over a week. The goal is to see if fisetin can help prevent the progression of sepsis to more serious organ damage.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Fisetin (a drug given by mouth)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a treatment that reduces organ damage in older patients with sepsis.
What could go wrong
This is an early phase 2 trial with only 220 participants, so results may not apply to all sepsis patients. The drug may not improve outcomes or could cause side effects.
