Major NHS trial questions if millions spent on surgical stockings is worth it

NCT ID NCT06166537

Summary

This large UK study aims to find out if wearing compression stockings in the hospital provides any extra benefit for preventing blood clots when patients are already taking extended blood-thinning medication after high-risk surgery. It will enroll over 8,600 patients to compare the two approaches. The goal is to determine if the stockings are truly helpful or if they cause more problems than they solve, potentially saving the NHS money and improving patient comfort.
