Stockings vs. no stockings: huge study tests clot prevention after surgery

NCT ID NCT06166537

First seen Mar 29, 2026 · Last updated Apr 27, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study looks at whether wearing compression stockings in the hospital, on top of taking blood-thinning medication, can further reduce the risk of dangerous blood clots after high-risk surgeries like cancer or joint replacement. About 8,600 adults will be randomly assigned to receive either blood thinners plus stockings or blood thinners alone. All participants will get an ultrasound to check for clots, and researchers will compare the two groups to see if stockings provide extra benefit.
