New device may prevent muscle loss in ventilator patients

NCT ID NCT05883163

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a device called STIMIT Activator 1 in 40 adults on ventilators for breathing support. The device aims to keep the diaphragm (the main breathing muscle) from weakening during ventilation. Participants are randomly assigned to receive the device or standard care, and doctors measure diaphragm thickness daily with ultrasound. The goal is to see if the device is safe and helps preserve muscle strength, potentially speeding recovery.
