Could a new drug combo reduce steroid use in chemo patients?
NCT ID NCT07662200
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a combination of anti-nausea drugs (netupitant/palonosetron) can effectively prevent nausea and vomiting in people with germ cell cancer receiving multi-day cisplatin chemotherapy, while using fewer steroids than usual. Ten participants will be randomly assigned to either the experimental steroid-sparing regimen or a standard regimen. The main goal is to see if this approach is feasible for a larger future study.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Netupitant/Palonosetron
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a way to manage chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting with fewer steroids, potentially reducing steroid-related side effects.
What could go wrong
This is a very early pilot study with only 10 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The experimental regimen may not control nausea as well as standard care.
