New precision tool aims to improve liver cancer ablation
NCT ID NCT05361551
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new, more precise way to perform liver ablation (using heat or cold to destroy tumors) in people with liver cancer. The technique combines stereotactic guidance, special CT imaging, and computer software to ensure the entire tumor is treated. About 50 participants with up to 5 small liver metastases will be enrolled to see if this approach improves treatment accuracy and quality of life.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
liver ablation procedure
What this could lead to
If successful, this could make liver tumor ablation more precise and effective, potentially reducing the need for repeat procedures.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The technique is complex and may not improve outcomes significantly.
