New study tests virtual exercise program to keep seniors moving
NCT ID NCT04368949
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests a 12-week virtual program called Stepping-Up, designed to prevent early mobility decline in adults aged 55-75 who are starting to have trouble with walking. Participants are randomly assigned to Stepping-Up, a telephone-based walking coaching program, or a chair-based yoga program. The main goal is to see if Stepping-Up improves walking speed better than the other approaches.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Stepping-Up (virtual exercise and self-management program)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide an effective way to prevent mobility decline in older adults, helping them stay active and independent longer.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small, early-stage study comparing three different interventions. The results may not apply to all older adults, and the virtual format may not suit everyone.
