New stent technique may replace ileostomy for rectal cancer patients
NCT ID NCT06204497
First seen May 15, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether a stent-based method could be a better alternative to ileostomy in rectal cancer patients at high risk for leakage after tumor removal. 570 adults participated across multiple hospitals. The goal was to see if the stent approach could shorten hospital stays, lower costs, and improve quality of life without increasing serious complications.
