Stem cell hope for Brain-Injured babies: new trial aims to boost recovery

NCT ID NCT07018739

Summary

This study is testing whether adding stem cell therapy to standard cooling treatment can improve outcomes for newborns who suffer brain injury from lack of oxygen around birth. Forty infants with moderate to severe injury will be randomly assigned to receive either three infusions of stem cells from donated placentas or a placebo within their first 10 days of life. Researchers will follow the babies for up to two years to see if the stem cell treatment reduces the risk of death or serious developmental delays compared to cooling therapy alone.
