Stem cell shot for Crohn's pouch fistulas shows promise but study halted

NCT ID NCT05075811

First seen May 08, 2026 ยท Last updated May 08, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether injecting stem cells from donor bone marrow could safely heal fistulas (abnormal tunnels) in people with Crohn's disease who have a J-pouch after colon removal. About 20 adults were planned to receive a single injection of 100 million stem cells. The study was terminated early, so final results are limited, but the goal was to see if the treatment could close the fistulas and improve symptoms.
