New radiation approach aims to stop brain tumor regrowth
NCT ID NCT06557512
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This pilot trial is testing a type of radiation called hypofractionated stereotactic radiosurgery for people who have had surgery for a grade II or recurrent grade I meningioma. The treatment delivers higher doses of radiation in fewer sessions, which may kill leftover tumor cells more effectively while reducing side effects. The study will enroll 23 participants to primarily check safety and see how well it prevents the tumor from coming back within 3 years.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Hypofractionated stereotactic radiosurgery (a precise, high-dose radiation treatment)
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could offer a more effective and safer way to prevent meningioma regrowth after surgery, reducing the need for repeat treatments.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study (23 people) with no control group, so results may not apply broadly. Radiation can still cause side effects like swelling or damage to nearby brain tissue.
