Can a new injection tame the painful lumps of hidradenitis suppurativa?

NCT ID NCT07766005

First seen Aug 14, 2026 · Last updated Aug 14, 2026

Summary

This phase 2 trial tests whether an investigational medicine called SPY072 can improve hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), a chronic skin condition causing painful lumps and tunnels. About 150 adults with moderate-to-severe HS who are already receiving standard care will be randomly assigned to receive SPY072 or a placebo for 16 weeks. The study will measure how many participants achieve a significant reduction in their HS lesions and will monitor safety and how long any benefits last.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
SPY072, an investigational medicine given as an injection under the skin
What this could lead to
If successful, SPY072 could offer a new treatment option for people with moderate-to-severe hidradenitis suppurativa, potentially reducing painful lumps and improving quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is an early-phase trial with a small number of participants, so results may not be conclusive. The medicine may not work better than placebo, and side effects are possible.
