Simple straps may boost hand skills in kids with cerebral palsy

NCT ID NCT07418710

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests two types of spiral arm straps (TheraTogs and TogRite) to see if they help children with unilateral spastic cerebral palsy use their affected arm and hand more effectively. Twenty-seven children aged 4 to 15 will be split into three groups: one gets rehab plus TheraTogs, another gets rehab plus TogRite, and the third gets rehab alone. Over eight weeks, researchers will measure grip strength, dexterity, and movement quality to compare the approaches.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

TheraTogs® Spiral Strapping System and TogRite™ Spiral Strapping System (supportive braces)

What this could lead to

If successful, these strapping systems could offer a simple, low-cost way to help children with cerebral palsy use their affected arm and hand more effectively in daily activities.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early-stage study (27 children) with no blinding, so results may not be generalizable. The devices only provide temporary support and are not a cure.
