Stanford tests new approach to break Post-Surgery opioid dependency

NCT ID NCT06027099

Summary

This study is testing whether combining counseling support with a muscle relaxant medication can help people who regularly use opioids for chronic back or neck pain safely reduce their medication after spine surgery. Researchers will compare three approaches in 375 patients across four medical centers to see which best helps patients return to their pre-surgery opioid levels or stop opioids completely while managing pain. The goal is to provide better pain care after surgery while reducing risks of opioid misuse.
