Healthy spine data could improve back pain care

NCT ID NCT01406743

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study aims to collect reference measurements of the spine and pelvis from 161 healthy adults using a low-dose X-ray system called EOS. By understanding what a normal, pain-free spine looks like, researchers hope to better diagnose and treat people with back pain. Participants must be over 18, have no significant back pain, and not be pregnant.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could provide a baseline of normal spine measurements, helping doctors better diagnose and treat back pain.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study with no treatment, so it won't directly help patients. Results may not apply to all populations.
