Portable skin dressing shows promise for rare blistering disease

NCT ID NCT05944250

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This pilot study tested a portable device called Spincare that sprays a nanofiber dressing onto wounds in people with recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB), a rare genetic condition causing fragile, blistering skin. Six participants with at least six chronic or recurrent wounds were enrolled. The study compared healing of treated wounds versus untreated ones over four months, also tracking side effects like pain or redness. The goal was to see if this easy-to-apply dressing is safe and helps wounds close.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Spincare matrix (a portable device that applies a nanofiber dressing to wounds)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a new, easy-to-use dressing that helps RDEB wounds heal faster and with less pain.

What could go wrong

This is a very small pilot study with only 6 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The dressing is temporary and not a cure.
