Could spinal anesthesia cut bleeding risk in prostate surgery?
NCT ID NCT07643415
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares spinal anesthesia to general anesthesia in men undergoing open simple prostatectomy for an enlarged prostate. The goal is to see if spinal anesthesia leads to less postoperative bleeding, such as fewer blood transfusions or less need for bladder irrigation. Eighty participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two anesthesia types, and bleeding outcomes will be tracked.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If spinal anesthesia reduces bleeding, it could become the preferred method for this surgery, lowering complication risks.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center trial, so results may not apply broadly. The difference between anesthesia types may be small or absent.
