Sleep aid from wheat germ? spermidine trial targets memory decline

NCT ID NCT07383311

First seen Feb 03, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study tests whether spermidine, a natural substance found in foods like wheat germ, can improve sleep quality and memory in older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), a condition that raises dementia risk. Over 12 weeks, 76 participants aged 55–70 will take either spermidine or a placebo, with sleep measured by brainwave tests and memory assessed through computer tasks. The goal is to see if boosting the body's cellular cleanup process can help protect the brain.
