One-Shot radiation hope for bulky tumors
NCT ID NCT02333110
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a single, high-dose radiation treatment called spatially fractionated radiation (SFR) for people with large tumors (over 8 cm) or tumors that resist standard radiation. The goal is to see if one session can relieve symptoms as well as multiple sessions, with fewer side effects and less time at the hospital. Fifty participants will receive the treatment and be monitored for pain relief and side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
spatially fractionated radiation therapy (GRID radiation)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a quicker, single-session radiation option to relieve symptoms from large or stubborn tumors, reducing hospital visits.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study (50 people) testing a new technique. It may not work for all tumor types, and there are risks of side effects like pain or tissue damage.
