Baking soda boost: cyclists may gain edge with common kitchen ingredient
NCT ID NCT07171047
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study looked at whether taking sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) before exercise helps well-trained cyclists perform better during a long, intense ride. Nineteen athletes did two lab sessions: one with the supplement and one with a placebo. The goal was to see if it reduces muscle fatigue and improves time trial results. While the supplement might offer a small performance boost, it can also cause stomach discomfort.
