NCT ID NCT05723653
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether having a trusted friend or family member (a Support Confidant) can help people with HIV keep their medical appointments and lower their virus levels. Researchers will enroll 900 people aged 18-49 in Chicago and Alabama who have missed visits or had unsuppressed virus. The program includes choosing a support person, a face-to-face meeting with a case manager, and quarterly check-ins by text or phone.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Social Network Support Intervention (behavioural program involving a Support Confidant and case manager sessions)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a low-cost, community-based way to help people with HIV stay in care and keep the virus under control.
- What could go wrong
- This is a behavioural intervention, not a drug, so results may vary. It is still recruiting and the effect on viral suppression is not yet proven.
