Friendship as medicine: can peer groups help control HIV?

NCT ID NCT03157258

Summary

This study tested whether group sessions for friends who all have HIV could help them stay in medical care and take their medication consistently. Researchers in Russia worked with 341 people living with HIV, organizing them into friend networks. They compared group support sessions to individual counseling to see which was better for improving clinic visits, medication use, and viral load.
