Cystic fibrosis and smoking: a hidden problem?
NCT ID NCT07342920
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is surveying 100 adults with cystic fibrosis to find out how many smoke or vape. Many people assume that patients with cystic fibrosis don't smoke, but there is almost no data on this. The results will help doctors improve tobacco prevention and understand how smoking or vaping might interact with the drug Kaftrio.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this study could provide crucial data to tailor smoking prevention programs for people with cystic fibrosis and help doctors understand how smoking or vaping might affect Kaftrio treatment.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study with only 100 participants from one center, so results may not apply to all people with cystic fibrosis. It does not test any new treatment.
