Smart pill boosts HIV prevention in men with substance use
NCT ID NCT05378399
First seen May 03, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tested a special digital pill that sends a signal when taken, along with a phone app, to help HIV-negative men who have sex with men and struggle with substance use stick to their daily HIV prevention medication (PrEP). Forty participants took the digital pill for 60 days. The goal was to see how well they followed their PrEP routine and understand what makes them miss a dose. This was an observational study, not a treatment, so it helps researchers learn how to better support this group.
