Phone app may help track and treat social anxiety
NCT ID NCT06732999
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether a smartphone app (BHQ) can reliably monitor social anxiety symptoms in adults, and whether a computer-based attention training called gaze-contingent music reward therapy (GC-MRT) reduces those symptoms. Forty adults with social anxiety disorder used the app and underwent GC-MRT. The goal was to see if digital monitoring could replace traditional questionnaires and if the therapy effectively eases anxiety.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Gaze-Contingent Music Reward Therapy (GC-MRT) - a computerized attention training
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a convenient, app-based way to track and treat social anxiety without medication.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The therapy requires a smartphone and may not work for all.
