Smart needle aims to make nerve blocks safer

NCT ID NCT07302997

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This early study tests a new device that monitors injection pressure in real time during nerve blocks for arm surgeries. 34 adults will be randomly assigned to receive the block with or without the smart needle. The goal is to see if the device helps keep pressure low, which may reduce nerve injury risk.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Smart Needle Monitoring System (device)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could make nerve blocks safer by helping doctors avoid high injection pressures that may cause nerve damage.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, small feasibility study with only 34 participants, so results may not apply widely. The device may not reduce pressure peaks or improve outcomes significantly.
