Smartphone and headband could replace sleep lab tests

NCT ID NCT04943562

First seen Dec 05, 2025 · Last updated Jun 15, 2026 · Updated 34 times

Summary

This study is testing whether wearable devices like a headband, a movement tracker, and a smartphone app can accurately measure sleep stages (like deep sleep and REM) compared to the standard sleep lab test called polysomnography. The researchers will first test the devices on 48 healthy volunteers, then on 60 people with sleep problems like insomnia or sleep apnea. If successful, these wearables could make sleep monitoring easier and more accessible at home.
