Cuddle time for newborns: does extra skin contact boost breastfeeding?
NCT ID NCT06777524
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study is testing whether teaching mothers to do at least 6 hours of skin-to-skin contact daily with their healthy full-term babies improves breastfeeding rates and maternal mood. Researchers will follow 130 mother-infant pairs for up to one year. The goal is to gather data to support family-centered care in South Korea.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
skin-to-skin contact education
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide strong evidence to encourage skin-to-skin contact as a standard practice for healthy newborns, potentially improving breastfeeding rates and maternal well-being.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (130 participants) at a single hospital in South Korea, so results may not apply broadly. The intervention relies on self-reported contact time, which may be inaccurate.
