Cuddle at first sight: can Skin-to-Skin contact improve birth and bonding?
NCT ID NCT07656207
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study will test whether placing a newborn directly on the mother's chest immediately after birth (before cutting the cord) for about an hour can improve birth outcomes and early parenting behavior. Researchers will track 96 first-time mothers who have a vaginal delivery at full term. They will measure things like pain, breastfeeding motivation, and how parents interact with their baby. The goal is to see if this simple, low-cost practice makes a meaningful difference.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
immediate skin-to-skin contact after birth
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that simple skin-to-skin contact improves breastfeeding, reduces pain, and strengthens early parenting bonds.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 96 participants, so results may not apply to all mothers. It measures short-term outcomes, not long-term benefits.
