Sweat sensor may predict blood pressure danger in elderly cancer surgery
NCT ID NCT07481851
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether measuring skin conductance—a sign of nervous system activity—can predict dangerous drops in blood pressure after spinal anesthesia in elderly cancer patients. Researchers will monitor 102 patients aged 65 and older undergoing urologic cancer surgery. If skin conductance proves reliable, it could offer a simple, noninvasive way to identify high-risk patients and improve safety during surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to a simple, noninvasive way to identify elderly cancer patients at risk of low blood pressure during surgery, helping doctors prevent complications.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early observational study, not a treatment trial. The results may not apply to all patients or settings, and skin conductance might not reliably predict hypotension.
