NCT ID NCT06271538

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a daily dose of Skal Pro—a mix of a friendly bacteria (Lactobacillus plantarum 299v) and a prebiotic fiber—can reduce IBS symptoms like belly pain, bloating, and irregular bowel movements. Sixty adults with IBS will receive either the supplement or a dummy sachet for several weeks. Researchers will track changes in symptom severity, stool form, quality of life, and mood to see if the supplement offers real relief.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Skal Pro (Lactobacillus plantarum 299v and galacto-oligosaccharides)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a natural, over-the-counter option to help manage IBS symptoms like belly pain, bloating, and irregular stools.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase trial with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The placebo effect is strong in IBS studies, and the supplement may not outperform placebo.
